Wireless printing ID50357 Printing without cables. From all your devices, anywhere in the house. Very handy. We list the options for wireless printing for you. Mobile and wireless are the keywords of the current time. So in the meantime you probably also have a tablet and / or smartphone in addition to your PC or laptop. But if you want to print something, you still end up at the PC to which your printer is connected. That can be more user-friendly: by printing wirelessly. Not only from your PC or laptop, but also from a tablet or smartphone.
In this article we list various options. For example, you can share your old printer on a home network or purchase a print server. But by far the most comfortable solution is the purchase of a modern WiFi printer. This makes it possible to print quickly, hassle-free and from all modern devices.
Wireless Printing of Share a Printer
You can share a printer connected to your computer on the network. This does have a number of disadvantages:
- The computer to which the printer is connected must be switched on if you want to be able to print.
- You cannot print from smartphones and tablets.
- On the computer or laptop with which you want to print, you must first find and set up the printer before you can print.
You can therefore ask yourself whether it is not easier to e-mail the items you want to print and then print from the computer connected to the printer.
But if you don’t mind the disadvantages, you can try sharing your printer. On the computer to which the printer is connected, open the Control Panel and choose Hardware and Sound> Devices and Printers. Then click on the printer you want to share and choose Share. In the new window that appears, indicate that you want to share this printer. You also come up with a ‘Share name’. This can be any name: it is simply meant that you recognize the printer on other devices. Click OK. Now go to ‘Network and Sharing Center’ in the Control Panel. Enable Printer Sharing here and then click OK.
You then do the following once for all the PCs and laptops with which you want to use the printer: go to the Control Panel and select Hardware and Sound. Then select Add Printer and choose Network Printer. You will now see the name that you have chosen for your printer. Select this and set it as the default printer. You can now print!
Using a Print Server
Another solution for your existing printer is to connect a print server. This is a small device that you connect to your printer via a USB cable and to your router via a network cable (there are also wireless versions where you do not need a network cable between the print server and router).
After connecting, install the supplied software and follow the various steps. After that, your printer is available on all your wireless devices in your network, and you can now easily add and set it as the default printer. Here too, you cannot print from a smartphone or tablet.
A print server costs a few tens: for that money you also have a good WiFi printer.
A Network Printer
Newer models of printers usually have a built-in print server. That is why these printers are called network printers. These devices are wired and wireless (via WiFi). The current generation of inkjet printers are generally wireless network printers. When it comes to ease of use, a wireless printer is the best buy. You can have them for as little as sixty euros.
A Wired Network Printer
You can connect wired network printers directly to your router with the corresponding USB cable. For wireless printing, the printer automatically connects to your network. After installing the associated software you can print wirelessly. The printer is now available on all your wireless devices on your network, and you can now easily add and set it as the default printer. Printing from smartphone or tablet is not possible.
A Wireless Network Printer
In fact, the wireless network printer (also known as a Wi-Fi printer) is the modern standard. Regarding the connection, it is the most user-friendly. You can place it anywhere in the house and print it from all devices in the house. So also from your smartphone or tablet.
The installation procedure differs per manufacturer, but it follows approximately the following steps:
-You install the corresponding software on your PC. Consult the manual for this.
-Then connect the printer to your computer using a USB cable. In this way you can make the correct wireless settings to the printer.
-You can then disconnect the printer from your PC again. The printer is now available on all wireless devices in your network.
Wireless Printing from Tablets and Smartphones
As you can see from the above, it is only possible with a modern WiFi printer to print directly from a smartphone or tablet. But you do need the help of apps. In addition to the printers, various network printer manufacturers also supply apps for smartphones and tablets in order to perform a wireless printing.
Below you can see the apps that the various printer manufacturers offer. With the information you can read which printer models are suitable.
