Default Printer

– Is this not the case? Then double-click the printer and click Printer in the menu of the window that appears.
– Then click Set as default printer.
– Close all open windows and see if the printer works again.

Pause printing

It is also possible that the printer is set to use offline or that printing has been interrupted. You check that:

– In Windows Vista, click Start> Control Panel. Under ‘Hardware and sounds’, click Printer.
– In Windows 7, click Start> Control Panel. Under ‘Hardware and sounds’, click View devices and printers.

– Then double-click the printer and click Printer in the menu of the window that appears.
– Check if there is a check mark next to Use printer offline and / or Interrupt printing. If (one of) both options is unexpectedly marked with a check mark, you remove the check mark by clicking on it.
– Close all open windows and try to see if the printer is working again.

Remove Software

If all the above solutions do not work to solve the printer won’t works, you can remove the software from the printer and then reinstall it.

– First disconnect a printer that works via a cable from the computer. To do this, disconnect the connection from the printer to the computer. Do this before you turn on the computer.
– Remove the software associated with your printer by following the steps in the ‘Remove unnecessary programs’ tip.
– When the relevant software has been removed, restart the computer.

Reinstall software

After you have uninstalled the software, you must reinstall the software.

If the printer works via a cable, first connect it to the computer and reinstall the software according to the instructions supplied with the printer. You can usually visit the website of the supplier of your printer for the latest software / drivers for your printer. You can look up the software / drivers you need to download on the website and you can then do so via the website.

In almost all cases the printer will work again after this new installation. If this is not the case, the printer is probably defective. Then you have nothing else to do than go to a computer store.
